After more than 10 years in business, this established Kansas City restaurant was ready to expand in a new, larger location. Which presented a prime opportunity for a brand evolution. We kept the inherently fun personality of “Lulu” herself in the new identity, which also reflects the establishment’s modern Asian appeal. The overall color palette took its inspiration from vibrant Thai food ingredients. Icons and patterns from the new design arsenal came into play inside the restaurant on booths, partitions and even custom-made lamps. Outside, commanding illuminated signage beckons from all directions. We also treated a large wall facing the busy main thoroughfare as the billboard it is with large directional graphics and related copy.

Boulevard is the one of the nation’s largest craft brewers and its beers have a fervently loyal following. But its products were the only way for the faithful to interact with the brand. This microsite and point of sale concept for a parallel marketing strategy to broaden the brewery’s reach sprung from Boulevard’s distribution area, which represents 13 contiguous midwestern states. In other words, its own country: Boulevardia. We created postcards for both email and traditional mail, as well as in-store posters and downloadable content to help celebrate the good fortune of being Boulevardians.

Christopher Elbow's distinctly artistic and adventurous approach to chocolate has endeared him to chocoholics worldwide, but especially in his hometown of Kansas City. He currently operates retail locations there and in San Francisco.

Guerrilla
To drive traffic to the grand opening of Christopher Elbow’s new home location, we created an outdoor “installation” of Elbow’s chocolate artistry in the heart of Kansas City’s arts district during a monthly gallery crawl. Twelve individual chocolate pieces were turned into “framed art” and mounted on walls, with a title card placed adjacent as if in a real gallery. As a result, the store tripled its usual sales and had to stay open two hours later than normal to accommodate customers.

Microsite
To help promote Elbow's special Valentine chocolate collection, we gave him a new way to engage with a familiar holiday. This microsite encouraged users to compose their own messages of love, or choose a pre-written template, using "chocolate" letters. They could then send their notes to a significant other and/or post it on Facebook or Twitter. Users could also buy chocolate straight from the site.

End results:
Over 2,000 letters created, over 20,000 unique users, nearly 30,000 page views, and best of all, roughly $7,000 in sales directly attributed to the effort.

Kansas City-based Glace (say it this way, “Gla-say”) Artisan Ice Cream is a more grown-up sweet treat expression, rich in texture and inventive flavors like Venezuelan dark chocolate, fleur de sel caramel and pineapple-cilantro sorbet. The corresponding brand expression is clean, sophisticated and a nod to the owner’s love of modern minimalism. At the same time, copy and color palette make it feel fun and approachable. The logo also incorporates a sly tie to ice cream with circles that look like melting “drips” hitting the floor, while tailored graphic elements make the identity feel fashionable and unexpected in the category.

The birth of a brand for a new neighborhood restaurant in Kansas City that features refined twists on familiar comfort food from James Beard award-winning chef Celina Tio (who recently was a contestant on both the Next Iron Chef on Food Network and Bravo TV's Top Chef Masters). The name Julian derives from Tio’s main cooking influences, Julia Child and her grandfather Julian. Design elements took cues from Child’s well-known, well-stocked kitchen, including her noted fondness for pegboard.

We also recently launched a personal site for Celina here.
